SAEON is proud to announce that the first issue of Ecological Circuits, which was published as a supplement to the October issue of the South African GIS journal PositionIT, has proved to be so successful that a second issue is in the pipeline.

Judging from the feedback received, it appears that a local niche has been filled by the publication. Articles were received from across the world with such an overwhelming response that even though a few more pages needed to be added to this first issue it still couldn’t hold all the articles.

Chris Yelland, the Managing Editor of EE Publishers said: "I am delighted with the great feedback you are getting on Ecological Circuits. Congratulations! We at EE Publishers are honoured to partner with you on this."

Ecological Circuits is aimed at providing articles on information management systems used to manage ecological, environmental and associated data and metadata. Globally, there are several such systems which are illustrated in this publication. Eco-informatics also includes the handling of information and the analysis and use of relevant data. More on this can be found in the first issue.

To cater for the overflow of articles from the first issue, a second issue of Ecological Circuits is planned for early next year. As with the first, the second issue is also planned as a supplement to PositionIT and will be posted along with this journal.

The due date for articles for the second issue is 5 December 2008. SAEON will appreciate sponsorship in the form of advertising. For further information on submitting articles, obtaining a hard copy of the first issue and advertising, contact avinash@saeon.ac.za.

An electronic copy of the first issue of Ecological Circuits is available on the web. For referencing purposes, the ISSN to be used is ISSN 2071-3290.
