An article entitled G’town pupils explore the Bay was published in The Herald of 27 March 2014. The article reports on the SAEON Elwandle Node’s initiative of taking a group of Grahamstown high school learners who achieved top marks in maths, physical and life sciences to explore Nelson Mandela Bay’s rocky shores during a three-day outing, during which they learn more about scientific research methods.

A profile on SAEON appeared in the February 2014 edition of the research infrastructure newsletter MoRI.
Two articles on SAEON’s research projects appeared in the March 2014 edition of Grassroots, the newsletter of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa:
- Growing a giant phylogenetic tree at Kew Gardens;
- SAEON Arid Lands Node takes on monitoring of de-proclaimed Vaalbos Park

In an article on the DataCite website, entitled DataCite General Assembly welcomes 4 new full members, SAEON is mentioned as a new member to the programme.

The March 2014 edition of Position IT featured a photograph of SAEON’s Managing Director, Johan Pauw, attending the South African Group on Earth Observations (GEO) communities of Practice Workshop to review South Africa’s contribution to GEO tasks.
