• Assuming overall responsibility for the proper functioning of the national office and the six nodes
• Providing strategic and technical leadership in the planning, execution and monitoring of new and existing initiatives and programmes
• Ensuring that SAEON is adequately funded and that all financial and physical resources are utilised in an efficient and prudent manner
• Bearing final responsibility for the appointment and management of staff
• Bearing final responsibility for budgeting and management of financial and physical resources
• Contributing to the strategic leadership of the National Research Foundation group
