• Lead the design and execution of research projects, and the dissemination or publication of research outputs
• Undertake monitoring and evaluation of performance on research projects
• Look for funding for SAEON's science projects
• Coach and mentor scientific staff as well as students
• Provide oversight over knowledge management activities at the nodes as well as at the national office
